Promoting self-reliance Opportunities for Rohingya Refugees in Cox’s Bazar
The humanitarian crisis in Cox’s Bazar has reached alarming levels. With over a million Rohingya refugees living in overcrowded camps, there is still a severe shortage of basic necessities such as livelihood opportunities, clean water, education, sanitation facilities, etc. To make them self-reliant, 375 beneficiaries from vulnerable Rohingya households have been engaged in skill development training such as floormat, bamboo craft and towel making under the trade jute craft and nakshi katha, macrame, doll under hand stitching trade. After the completion of these training, each of the trained beneficiaries were provided with input support to start their own business. This input support includes providing them with necessary materials, tools, and equipment to set up their businesses. The beneficiaries of skill development training were provided with market linkage support. Some beneficiaries have been also engaged in Cash for Work activities such as cleaning, baby care, center renovation, repairing and construction. Cash for Work activities provide beneficiaries with temporary employment opportunities, allowing them to earn income while contributing to community development projects. With skill development, business and production materials, and market linkage support, beneficiaries have been skilled enough to produce their products and manage their businesses.

Programme Highlights
Our Impact in Action
KHWAB- an initiative for improved opportunities for self-reliance.
KHWAB, meaning 'dream' in Persian, is a skills development initiative aimed at building community resilience and livelihood opportunities for Rohingya refugees in Bhasanchar. 🌿 Through marketable skills training, KHWAB inspires men and women to dream of a brighter future. Run by PROTTYASHI, with support from GRASSROOTS, IOM, and the Japanese Government, this initiative connects skilled refugees with income opportunities. Raw materials are provided to artisans, and their finished products are marketed through Nakshikanthaa and GRASSROOTS. KHWAB also offers livelihood counseling, Cash-for-Work programs, and ongoing learning, all aimed at fostering self-reliance among vulnerable refugees, especially women and youth. Together, we’re helping them build a path to resilience. 💪
